Eating proper nutrition offers numerous health benefits that keep you mentally and physically well. Medical science suggests that maintaining a healthy body is dependent on 10% genetics, 10% exercise and 80% of eating and consuming proper nutrition.
Proper nutrition though, doesn’t mean starving yourself, but instead means eating a variety of foods that give you the nutrients you need to maintain your health and to feel good. These nutrients include protein, carbohydrates, fat, water, vitamins, and minerals.
Proper nutrition is important for everyone. But unfortunately, for many of us, proper nutrition is far from what we get from our daily diet.
We are obsessed with junk food or processed food that comes from a box or can. And many of us eat little or worse yet no real whole foods that provides the body with the proper nutrition it needs.
The term “proper nutrition” is often misinterpreted by people and most people don’t fully understand how to implement it into their daily lives. Proper Nutrition should form a major part of a healthy lifestyle.
What Is Proper Nutrition
Nutrition is defined as nourishment that is obtained from consuming food or the process of consuming nourishment in the proper amounts.
Medical science interprets nutrition as the interaction of nutrients and other substances in food in relation to maintenance, growth, reproduction, health and disease of an organism. It includes food intake, absorption, assimilation, biosynthesis, catabolism and excretion.
Proper nutrition should form a major part of your daily life. And should go hand in hand with living a healthy lifestyle.
Good nutrition is also the key to good mental and physical health.
Eating a balanced diet is vital for good health and well-being. Food provides our bodies with the energy, protein, essential fats, vitamins and minerals to live, grow and function properly.
We need a wide variety of different foods to provide the right amounts of nutrients for good health.
Fruit and Vegetables
The main part of a proper nutrition is the presence of fruits and vegetables. How many servings per day should you be consuming? It is suggested that we eat 5-9 servings of fruits and vegetables daily. Though here at How To Nutrition, we say more is better.
Produce For Better Health Foundation State of the Plate: 2010 Study reported that on a daily basis, 94% of Americans do not eat enough vegetables, and 92% do not eat enough fruit. The study noted that the average person consumes 1.8 cups of fruits and vegetables per day. 1.8 cups is equal to about 2 or 3 servings of produce.
The Center For Disease control says that fewer than one in 10 Americans eat enough fruit and vegetables daily.
Make it easier to consume more produce daily by filling your fruit bowl with produce that doesn't have to be refrigerated.
Such as apples, pears, bananas, oranges, cherry tomatoes, mini sweet peppers, mangoes, avocados, and when in season with peaches, plums and nectarines.
Just place the bowl in plain view on your kitchen counter-top or table. When you feel like snacking it’s easy to grab a piece of fruit, a few sweet peppers, or a handful of cherry tomatoes.
Always remember that it is essential to get a variety of fruits and vegetables in your diet. And get as many different colors as possible.
Simplifying When Eating Proper Nutrition
It is really simple to get proper nutrition by eating a wide variety of real whole foods. This would include fresh pasture-fed meats, organic vegetables and fruits, berries, nuts, seeds, and whole grains. And a moderate consumption of full fat dairy.
Eating whole fresh foods allows you to get the vitamins and minerals your body needs to stay healthy and active.
So, toss the processed foods from boxes and cans, and fill your plate with nature’s goodness and you will see and feel a marked difference in your energy levels, brain function or mental clarity, physical health, and a healthy weight.
It is always recommended to be consistent in your approach towards eating healthy food with a proper nutrition plan, as well as towards maintaining healthy eating habits. Always have a good grasp on what proper nutrition is and how to best incorporate it into your life.
By implementing proper nutrition as part of your daily life, your body will be healthier and will have more energy.
Ensuring your body is receiving the nutrition it needs will take a little bit of work, but it is definitely worth it.
